  1. Russian Federal Nuclear Center – Address: All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics Internet:www.vniief.ru E-mail:assa@astra.vniief.ru Fax: 83130 - 45798

  2. RUSSIAN FEDERAL NUCLEAR CENTER - All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics RFNC-VNIIEF is a large scientific-technical Russian Center capable to solve the most complex tasks of scientific and applied directions. The Institute was established in 1946 with the aim to create the national nuclear weapons. In 1990 the activities on conversion and international collaboration began.

  3. RFNC-VNIIEFhas at its disposal: • diverse experimental, testing and industrial base including a gas dynamic complex, irradiating plants, nuclear reactors, accelerators, laser plants, complexes for mechanical, thermal and climatic testing for different products and devices; • mathematical base with the appropriate software being one of the most powerful in Russia; • sufficient amount of high qualified scientists and specialists in different fields of science and technique.

  4. TECHNOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT OF RFNC-VNIIEF Main Tasks: • investigation of material properties; • development of new materials with specified properties; • development of advanced technological processes. Department Structure: • 12 scientific-technical laboratories; • 3 divisions; • experimental mechanical base (shop); • necessary supporting services. Amount: more than 500 persons including 340 scientific and engineer-technical employees.

  5. Polymer-based ecologically pure materials X-ray protective material based on silicone rubber • Characteristics: • provides protection at tube pressure of 85 kV , • density, 2800-2900 kg/m3, • tensile strength 3.0-3.5 МPа, • lead equivalent at thickness of 1.8 mm 0.45 мм. • Purpose: • is designed to manufacture protective materials for medical personnel and patients in medical radiology. Toxicological tests have been performed, and the permission of the RF Ministry of Public Health for the development and manufacture of protective clothes and shutters used in X-ray facilities.

  6. Polymer-based ecologically pure materials Radiation-barrier material based on УГ-2Д polyurethane compound • Characteristics: • provides protection at tube pressure of 120 кV, • density4.5 kg/m3, • tensile strength5.8 МPа, • lead equivalent with thickness of 1 mm0.35 мм. • Process of production: direct moulding • Purpose: • is designed to manu- • facture protective • materials to be used • by medical personnel • and patients in • medical radiology

  7. Polymer-based ecologically pure materials ПДИ-3А rubber-based radiation shielding material for X-rays • Production procedure : • spray-coating on a rigid base. • Application: • is used in robotics designed to eliminate nuclear power plant accidents.

  8. PARTNERS OF RFNC-VNIIEF State Institutions •USA National Laboratories • Nuclear Energy Commissariat of France • Research Centers of Germany • Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics International Institutions • IAEA • CERN • ISTC • CRDF Proposed modes for cooperation • Partner agreements with ISTC or CRDF • Direct agreements Address Internet:www.vniief.ru E-mail:assa@astra.vniief.ru Fax: 83130 - 45798
