  7. Appaloosa • The appaloosa breed is characterized as having a two toned body. This meaning that the front is typically a solid color, while the back is usually spotted. • The appaloosa is the official horse of the state of Idaho • It is the mascot for the Florida State Seminoles. Next

  8. Quarter Horse Next

  9. Quarter Horse • Quarter horses are known for their well built, muscular, stocky build. • This is referred to as the “American Horse” • This breed is most commonly used for work, such as roping and working cattle. • It gets it’s name from being able to run a quarter mile faster than other breeds.   11. Thoroughbred • This breed is characterized by its well built, athletic build with long legs. • This is the most common breed for horse racing. • Former President Andrew Jackson used to race Thoroughbreds Next

  13. Mustang • This breed is characterized by having large heads and large cheeks. • Mustang’s are considered “feral horses”, meaning that they are wild. • Nevada holds over half of the feral mustang population in the US. Next

  15. American Paint • This breed is characterized as most commonly having a two toned body of usually white and dark brown. • The body is similar to that of the Quarter Horse • The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) is the second largest breed registry in the US. Next

  17. Arabian • The Arabian breed is characterized by their curved neck and bottle-nosed features. • Arabians have one less vertebrate than other horse breeds allowing them to run for longer distances. • This breed was bred to be able to run endurance races Next

  19. Clydesdale • This is one of the most famous draft breeds. • They are bred for their size and strength, making them prime for working. • The Clydesdale breed is the official breed of Budweiser. Next
