  3. CasC Background CURL’s unique role in the research support environment is based on the willingness of CURL members to commit their skills and resources to support CURL activities. To maintain this role and commitment, CURL’s identity must be clear, and what we give in return must best meet members’ needs in supporting their research communities.

  4. Issues • A complex organisation, broad range of activities and interactions on different levels • Preserving and communicating identity and purpose • CURL isn’t on the daily task list • Reaching beyond the SMT

  5. Terms of Reference • Improve branding and communications • Identify ways to improve the benefits of CURL membership at different levels • Increase Members’ engagement at all levels • Facilitate networking and development opportunities, particularly in relation to changing roles

  6. What we’re doing • Open the November 2006 Members’ Meeting beyond Directors • TBI consultancy on brand and communications: issues, perspectives, strategy • Support in dealing with a changing environment and roles: complementing other Task Forces • CasC session at April 2006 Members’ Meeting

Changing Environment • Researchers do, and libraries must, operate beyond the local • An individual institution’s capacity to support change is less than that of the collective or CURL community • The CURL community includes other professions and we need to work with their input • We should facilitate staff adopting a supra-institutional and collaborative focus to research support

  9. Change Management Guide • Address issues around change to methods of research support provision • Raise awareness and understanding of new models such as supra-institutional working • Strands for different groups of staff: middle managers, bibliographic services, special collections, subject librarians
