Rankine – Carnot Comparison • The Rankine cycle delivers more power at the expense of additional heat transfer rate at the boiler which results in a the thermal efficiency lower than the Carnot efficiency • The Carnot cycle has the highest efficiency, but it is not practical, or possible!   4. What does Carnot’s Efficiency Reveal? The larger difference between TH and TL results in a higher efficiency. TH and TL can be ‘driven apart’ by separating the boiler pressure and condenser pressure as much as possible. How can this be done? What influences the boiler and condenser pressures in the cycle?

  5. The Rankine Cycle with Superheat The effect of increasing the boiler pressure is to increase the average high temperature in the cycle. What else can be done to increase this average temperature? Superheating from 1-1’ is one way to accomplish this!
