  2. Onset of the institution of Youth Clubs in Cyprus • The institution of Youth Clubs traces its origins in the foundation of the first Youth Club of Agios Amvrosios (province of Kyrenia) in 1968. • The institution of the Youth Clubs developed throughout the Cypriot cities and villages until the Turkish invasion in the summer of 1974.

  3. Support for the young refugees • During the decade 1974- 1984, several Youth Clubs were formed as part of the measures adopted for the support of the young refugees to cope with the challenges of their social condition. • Participation in activities such as theatre, dance, painting and sports helped the youth to overcome their feelings of frustration and pessimism.

  4. Expansion of the Youth Clubs within the community • From the early 80’s until now, numerous Youth Clubs were and still are being established outside the refugee settlements. • The youth of Cyprus found a wide variety of ways to express themselves in a positive way in the Youth Centers –which are founded by their own initiative.

  5. The Youth Clubs after CY joined EU-2004 • The Youth Clubs were increasing and so was the need of an Organization which would be the coordinating instrument of all the Youth Clubs in Cyprus.
