  1. Mrs. Wade-Perez Kindergarten Welcome, families!

  2. Welcome to Kindergarten! • Thank you all for coming and supporting your children! • If you have any questions during my presentation, note cards are on all tables to write them down. We will have time at the end for questions.

All About Me • My background • I grew up in Sparks, Nevada. • I attended Alyce Taylor Elementary, Spanish Springs High School, and The University of Nevada, Reno. • My experience • Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Special Education • Started Masters in Early Education • I’ve been teaching for 4 years. • I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade.

My Goals • To give you the academic and social skills foundation needed to continue the journey of learning throughout the proceeding grade levels and beyond. • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To help you make new friends and discover new interests. • Involve families in the classroom and academic environment

  6. Class Subjects • The subjects we cover during Kindergarten are: • Reading and writing • Math • Science • Social studies • Art • Specials • Music • Library • Counseling • Computers

  7. Reading • We will be using the Nevada Academic Content Standards (Core Knowledge) • Themes we will cover: • Weather/Seasons • Farm • The Earth • Nursery Rhymes/Fables • The 5 Senses

  8. Writing • Half Hour of Writer’s Workshop each day. • Writing Journals will be purchased as part of the $10 school supply fee. • It is typical to start out drawing pictures or strings of letters, as the year progresses writing strings of letters will turn into small words, and then full sentences. • Sight Words and Sight Word Soldiers

Math • Every Day Math • Georgia Math • Math Talks • Engage NY • Small math books will be sent home with activities throughout the year • Math will be implemented using classroom computers through engaging activities • Will follow Nevada Academic Content Standards to create a holistic approach of curriculum. • Ex. Reading them Dinosaurs Math measuring Dinosaur feet

  10. Science and Social Studies • 1-2 times a week • Part of the Nevada Academic Content Standards • Will correlate with the reading themes to create a holistic learning approach. • Hands on learning and explorations. • $10 school supply will help purchase Scholastic News

  11. Classroom Community • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. • Class Dojo Behavior Management/Communication • We will follow the school Behavior Matrix: • Stay Safe • Wise Decisions • Inspire Success • Mutual Respect • SWIM Dollars, Shopping trips, POD Dollars

Homework • Homework will be sent home on Fridays using the two pocket folder you purchased and will be returned the following Thursday • You do not have to do homework on the weekends… • Homework will consist of a reading log and a couple of worksheets to practice skills we are working on in class. Nothing will be sent home if we have not covered it in class first

  13. Parent Volunteers • Make sure to fill out a volunteer form located in the office and they will take a copy of your id. This is a 2 week process. • I have an open door policy! All parents are welcome to help in our classroom and join us on field trips. • I will have a volunteer sign up starting the first week of October.
