  1. Social Health • Social Health - Refers to that dimension of an individual's well-being that concerns how he/she gets along with other people, how other people react to him/her, and how he/she interacts with social institutions and societal norms.

  2. Social HealthPublic Health • Public health includes disease prevention and promoting health through good decision making. • Keeping yourself safe and healthy benefits your community as a whole.

  3. Social HealthFamily Relationships • A healthy family relationship is one that is supportive, loving, responsible, and balanced. • Families should work together to eliminate stress and negativity in the home. Promoting a safe and enjoyable environment.

  4. Social HealthPeer Relationships • Strong and supportive friendships increase happiness, self-esteem, and reduces stress. • Friends are there to help celebrate your accomplishments and there to offer support in times of need.

  5. The Health Triangle Review • There are 3 major areas of the health triangle: physical, mental and social. • Good decision making and healthy choices reduce the risk of disease and increase health overall.

  6. Relationships • Relationships come in many forms • Family • Friends • Other • Activity – List the friends you have made in order starting with the first friend you can remember, once you have completed the list circle your 3 closest friends

  7. Relationships • Activity • How can people in relationships show value for one another • Family • Friends • Other • Bond or connection between people • Healthy relationship occurs when both parties feel valued

  8. Roles in Relationships • Role – a part that you play • Activity – Make a list of roles you play in the different relationships you have • Examples • Brother • Sister • Son • Team member • Ect

  9. Relationships Take Work • Cooperation – working together for the good of all • Compromise – The result of each person giving up something in order to reach a solution • Activity – List 3 compromises you recently have taken part in

  10. Qualities of a Healthy Relationship • What qualities do you look for?

Think about it • Suppose that it is your grandmother’s 90th birthday, but on the same night you have the options to attend one of the following events your best friends graduation party, game seven of the world series (Pirates), the super bowl (Steelers), your favorite band’s concert, and or leave for vacation, what would you do?
