  2. NCIDC • Established in 2002. • Providing technical support. • Control of46 infectious and endemic diseases. • There are 27 Branches all over the country.

  6. LJID • Libyan Journal of Infectious Disease www.nidnn-jid.org.ly , which is an official periodical of the centre and in Index Medics W.H.O , E.M.R.O, and in Libyan Medical Index.

  7. Libyan European partnership for infectious diseases control programme(LEPIDC) • lessons learnt from the previous projects • need to expand the activities towards Infectious diseases (ID) to the whole country • (LEPIDC) is more ambitious and challenging than the previous one.

  8. LEPIDCAims • enlarging the support to the country at various levels: • Support to regional hospitals ,(units in five regional hospitals will be targeted). • Institutional support to the NCIDC.

  9. LEPIDC Support Levles • Development of curricula which include application of knowledge, practical skills and professionalism with particular emphasis on confronting stigmatisation of PLHIV.

  10. projects objectives • The overall objective of the project is to improve health status of the population of Libya in the area of HIV/AIDS and other ID. • Strengthen the capacity of the Government of Libya to develop appropriate approaches in the management of HIV/AIDS and other ID through the provision of TA and training.

  11. National HIV/AIDS Strategy in Libya • Support to the Development and Implementation of a National HIV/AIDS Strategy in Libya • Implementing agency: Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

  12. Specific objective • Provision of a technical assistance to the Government of Libya to finalize the development of a 2009-2013 National HIV/AIDS Strategy • Provision of an appropriate treatment, support and care to children and adults with HIV and AIDS

  13. Main Interventions • formulate a National HIV Strategy that addresses Libya’s priority issues for HIV prevention and care • obtain critical biological, social and behavioural estimates to guide and assess the strategy • analyze these data and draw evidence based conclusions from them

  14. Main Interventions,,,, • develop policies and procedures to effectively promote best practice, evidence-based harm minimisation activities amongst key high risk groups (IDU, FSW, MSM) • coordinate the dissemination of key HIV strategy messages and policies
