  2. Contents • EP Facilities for ILC R&D at KEK (Nomura and STF/KEK) • Current status of EP facilities at STF/KEK • EP facility update plan at STF/KEK for 2008 • Current status of EP facilities at Nomura • EP facility update plan at STF/KEK for 2009 • EP schedule for 2008/2009 and STF2/S0 • Summary

  3. EP facilities for ILC R&D Nomura Plating Co. KEK Move Next year EP beds/HPR/CR….= KEK properties. Building = Nomura properties. Operated by Nomura personnel. Location is Kanuma: 70 km away from KEK. It takes 2 hours for transportation from Nomura to KEK. Superconducting Test Facility (STF) Building/EP beds/HPR/CR …. = KEK properties. 10. EP facility Update Planat STF/KEK for 2008 • Post-EP Rinse process is very important to eliminate FE. Now ethanol(DESY) and degreaser(Jlab) rinses are in the standard recipe in these Lab’s. KEK is interested in H2O2 rinse. Post-EP Rinse setup will be installed. • Pre-EP removes dirty particles after tumbling. Fresh-EP has similar effect to post-EP rinse. Both processes cannot use EP acid in tank. We need additional fresh and waste acid tanks. • After VT, cavity is disassembled and the indium sealing of flange should be removed completely by Chemical-Polish (CP) for next assembly. Flange-CP setup will be installed for this. • Robot arm will be installed around EP-bed. One operator can handle 9-cell cavity + jigs easily by this robot arm. • Cavity-CP (BCP) is necessary, even if it is not essential for KEK standard recipe. Full-automatic cavity-CP (BCP) system cannot be installed due to the lack of budget. Man-operated cavity-CP (BCP) setup is planned to be installed.

  16. EP facility Update Planat STF/KEK for 2008 Cavity Chemical-Polish (CP) 9-cell cavity Large walk-in type draft-chamber will be used. Man-operated (non-automatic) CP setup is planned, simply due to the lack of budget. CP acid and waste tanks + pump are needed. Still discussing the design.

  20. EP facility Update Plan for Year 2009 Move Nomura facilities to STF/KEK Move Nomura facilities to this area STF Building Nomura UPW system Existing EP bed (ILC/ERL) Existing HPR Nomura EP bed (KEKB/ILC/ERL) Existing Clean Room New HPR Two EP beds are available for ILC R&D activities

  21. EP facility Update Plan at STF/KEK for Year 2009 Move Nomura facilities to STF/KEK

  22. EP schedule for Year 2008/2009 S1-Global + S0 Not yet scheduled Stop Termination

  23. EP schedule for STF2 production and S0 • Two EP beds cannot be used in parallel due to safety reason, but during one EP bed is used for EP, the other can be used for the next EP setup. This will raise the efficiency. • We are assuming the capacity of STF/KEK EP facility = twice EP processes per week utilizing two EP beds. • The schedule of EP processes for STF2 cavities depends on the fabrication schedule of cavities. We roughly estimate that the EP processes for STF2 cavities might start from the beginning of 2010. • Rough estimation of STF2 EP schedule: 28 cavities for 2 years and 4 months (28 months), assuming 1 cavity with 3 EP’s and 2 VT’s, utilizing Kyoto-camera checks. This occupies only 38% (3/8) of the capacity of STF/KEK EP facility. • The rest of the EP capacity at STF/KEK can be used for S0 and fundamental R&D activities for ILC, and other project: KEKB and ERL.

  24. Summary • EP facilities for ILC R&D at KEK are currently located at STF/KEK and Nomura Plating Co. • EP bed, Ultrasonic cleaning, HPR have been already installed at STF/KEK. • Alcohol/degreaser/H2O2 rinse, Pre-EP, Fresh-EP, flange-CP, Robot-arm, cavity-CP facilities will be installed within 3 months. • EP facility will start regular EP processing from January 2009. • EP facilities at Nomura will be moved to STF building at KEK in the middle of Year 2009. Then Nomura EP facility will be terminated. • The EP process of 9-cell cavity can be performed twice per week regularly utilizing two EP beds at STF/KEK. This capacity is enough for STF2 production, S0, and fundamental R&D activities for ILC.
