  2. What does Student Financial Services (SFS) do? • Provide financial aid counseling for students & families • Award Financial Aid Funds • Promote financial literacy • Help students navigate through the financial aid process

  3. All Communication with Students is done via Self Service Banner – [SSB]

  4. Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act A student must provide consent allowing SFS staff to discuss information about their financial aid to parents, guardians or other appropriate persons. Students should complete the FERPA waiver online via the Students log-in, select the “Self-Service Banner” link, then select “Student” tab, under “Main Menu” select “FERPA”.  FERPA Waiver

  5. Loans Grants & Scholarships Work-Study Money from other sources What is Financial Aid?

  6. Money borrowed to assist with educational costs. Repayment begins 6 months after enrollment drops below half-time status. • The maximum loan amount for an entering DEPENDENT freshman or transfer student with (less than 30 credits) is $5,500. • ALL LOANS MUST BE ACCEPTED through Self Service Banner (SSB) ALSO • Complete the Entrance Counseling & Master Promissory Note (MPN)at www.studentloans.gov Federal Direct Loans

  7. Free money. Awards automatically apply to the student’s account with no action needed by the student. These awards generally DO NOT NEED TO BE REPAID • Eligibility is generally awarded based on certain criteria. • Merit • Financial Need • Athletics • Military • Money from other sources include: parents (YOU) employer, college, city/township, libraries, religious/community organizations and online Grants & Scholarships

  8. Part-time job opportunities for students with financial need. • Student may apply online through TUPORTAL: studentjobs@temple • Students are paid bi-weekly Federal Work Study (FWS)

  9. Credit based loans for parents of dependent undergraduate students. • Parents may borrow up to the student’s total cost of attendance. • Repayment begins upon full disbursement. • Deferment options are available on www.studentloans.gov Federal Direct Parent Plus Loan (PLUS)

January 1st: Upcoming year’s FAFSA becomes available March 1st: Temple University’s FAFSA deadline May 1st: PHEAA State Grant Deadline (PA Residents Only) June 30th: Earliest date suggested to apply for Plus & Private Loans Jan-May: Scholarship deadlines for upcoming Fall semesters Sept-Dec: Scholarship deadlines for upcoming Spring semesters Dates to Remember
