  3. This is where the catcher stands. He is here to catch the balls from the pitcher. He is dressed in a lot of padding and extra gear to make sure that if he gets hit with the ball he doesn’t get injured. This is also where the batter stands and has to cross to score there team a point. The more times you cross this plate without getting called out the more points you get to lean your team to victory. 4. 1st BASE • This is where the first baseman stands. He is here to try and get out the batter when someone throws him a ball. • As a batter you have to hit the ball and try and make it to this base before the other team throws you out. • If you hit a ball and first base is the only base you can get, you should always run through the bag and turn to your right. • You should always watch out for the pick off plays. This is where the pitcher in the middle of pitching to the batter turns and throws it at first trying to get you out from leading off the bag. -Click here to go back

  5. THE PITCHER • The pitcher is the most important part in the game. He throws the ball to the batter trying to strike him out or let him hit the ball. • If there is a person on any base, the pitcher could also try and pick off the runner. This is called a pick off play. • If there is a person on 3rd base and the pitcher throws the ball past the catcher the pitcher has to cover home plate and try and stop the runner by receiving the ball and tagging the runner out. • The pitcher also should never catch a fly ball. If there is a fly ball one of the base members should always run an protect the pitcher by catching the ball for him. -Click here to go back

  6. 2nd BASE • There is very little to know about 2nd base. When the ball is hit and there is someone on 1st running towards you all you have to do is step on the base an the runner is out. That is called a force out. But if there is nobody there and the hitter runs through 1st and is coming towards 2nd you have to catch the ball and drop a tag on the runner before he touches the bag. • Other then the base running, 2nd base is just like 1st base. When the pitcher is on the mound and there is a runner on second, he just might turn and try and pick the runner off of this bag. • If there is a runner on first an the ball is hit to infield, you could turn a double play. A double play is when you throw it to a base to get one person out and quickly turn and throw to another to get both runners out. -Click here to go back

  7. 3rd BASE • 3rd base is just as important as any other base. You don’t need to have the reflexes you have to have for short stop or second but its just as difficult. • As a third baseman you have to be ready for those quick hits right to you an then you have to field it very quickly and throw it to the base necessary. • You also have to be ready if there is a person on third. You have to straddle the bag and be ready for a pick off play coming from the pitcher. This is harder on third base if you have a left handed picture. Then you have to pay real good attention. -Click here to go back

  8. SHORT STOP • Short stop is one of the hardest spots to play on the baseball field. You have to be ready for any kind of hit and how to back up that hit. • If the ball is hit in the outfield you are either a cut off (first target so the outfielder doesn’t hurt their arm by throwing it all the way to the certain bag) or you take over second or third base. • You have to have brain for this spot. You have to be on your toes the whole time. You also have to watch the pitcher. If the pitcher turns and throws to a bag you have to be there for backup just in case the ball is overthrown. -Click here to go back

  9. LEFT FIELD • Outfield is a very important position. Especially for the left fielder. Most batters are right handed and come around quick on the ball which most of the time comes to left field. • If the ball is hit in the infield to the shortstop or the third baseman you need to back them up as quick as possible. If the pitcher or even the catcher try and pick the batter off of third base you need to back up the third baseman. • If the ball is hit in the outfield you have to listen to your team mates. If they tell you a base you should always throw to the base, if they tell you to hit the cut off you need to throw it to your short stop, and if it’s the last out you can just hold your pride and jog it in. • If the ball is hit in the air and there is a man on a base, when you catch it the baseman can tag up (touch the bag) and take off to the next base trying to beat your throw. • You have to also protect all your boundaries. If the ball is hit over your head it might be a homerun but you have to get out there because maybe you will be able to rob the batter by catching the ball before it goes over the wall. Same thing with the foul line/wall to your right. If the ball is hit foul play the ball anyways. You might have heard the wrong call. If the ball is hit an you think its going into the stands, run it out because you never know where the ball will exactly end up. -Click here to go back

  10. Center field also has to protect the fence above his head. If the ball is hit over your head, it may be a homerun. You don’t want this. You have to hurry and try and take it away by catching that ball. You also need to be prepared for where the cut offs are. • For the center fielder there are two cut offs third baseman and the first baseman. If you hear them yell you better release that ball. CENTER FIELD • Center field is plenty as important as any other position on the field. You have to defiantly be on your toes to play here. A ball hit to you in the air you have to sprint to the ball and even if you have to dive or jump to catch it , this ball is yours. • As a center fielder, you have to protect the fence behind you and also the players to your left and right. • The people to your sides are the other fielders. If they are after a ball you are the one to sprint and back them up in case of them dropping it or not being able to reach it. If this happens you have to be ready to throw the ball in by yourself. Also LISTEN to your teammates. -Click here to go back

  11. RIGHT FIELD • The right fielder is still a very important player in the field. He plays behind the first baseman an also has to be high on their toes. • If there is a pick off play where the pitcher throws to the first baseman, the right fielder has to be there as quick as possible in case of a error. • The right fielder is another person on the field that has many jobs that needs to be covered, such as the fence. • You have to be aware of when the ball is hit. When its hit if its in the air the right fielder should always try and protect the fence behind him or to his left. He should try and not let the ball get by him or over the wall. If its over the wall its an automatic homerun. • If the ball is hit to the left side of the right fielder he has to be there and protect his side. If its in the air he should try and catch the ball for a force out. If the ball is on the ground he has to listen to his teammates and let them tell him where to throw the ball. If the ball is caught be aware of the runner he may be tagging up. You never know what's going to happen so always listen to your team mates. Click here To go back

  12. THIS IS WHERE YOU DON’T WANT THE BALL IF YOU ARE A BATTER. IF THE BALL IS IN FOUL TERRITORY YOU ARE FINE BUT YOU BETTER HOPE ITS ACUALLY OUT OF PLAY AND NOWHERE WHERE THE PLAYERS CAN CATCH IT AND GET YOU OUT. • THERE ARE THREE MAIN SPOTS OF OUT OF PLAY AREAS. ONE IS BEHIND THE CATHCER AN THERE ARE ONE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE THIRD BASEMAN AND ONE TO THE RIGHT OF THE FIRST BASEMAN WHICH EXTENDS FROM BEHIND THE CATCHER TO THE OUTFIELD. FOUL TERRITORY ^Click here to go back

  13. HOMERUN • HOME RUN IS THE BEST THING IN BASEBALL SINCE BABE RUTH AND HIS 60 HOMERUNS IN ONE GREAT SEASON. IF THE BALL HIT BY THE BATTER CROSSES THE FENCE PAST THE OUTFIELDERS AND IN BETWEEN THE FOUL BALL POLES, THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC HOMERUN. THE PLAYER HAS TO RUN AROUND THE BASES AND TOUCH EVERY BAG AN THEN HE GETS CREDIT FOR HIS HOMERUN HE JUST HIT. SOMETIMES A HOMERUN CAN DETERMINE WHO WINS THE GAME. Click here to go back
