3. The Positions The pitcher may pitch from either the windup or the set position. The position of his feet will determine whether he is pitching from the windup or the set position.

4. The Windup Position

5. Windup Position Pivot foot must be in contact when he takes the sign. ( no contact – Balk!!!) The ball may either be in his pitching hand or his glove. Hands may be together, or 1 hand in front of his body and the other hand at his side.

6. Windup Restrictions Once he starts his motion the pitcher must continue on w/out alteration or interruption. He must either pitch to the batter. He may step back off the rubber pivot foot first if attempting to pickoff a runner.

7. The Set Position

8. Set Position Shall take the sign with his pivot foot in contact with, parallel to and in front of the rubber. His entire non-pivot foot must be in front of a line extending on either side through the front edge of the pitching rubber. With his feet in this position he can take the sign from the catcher.

9. The ball must be in either the gloved hand or pitching hand. Both hands may not be together! The pitching hand must be behind his back or at his side and visible. His hand may not swing free in front of his body (with or w/out the ball) in the set position. Penalty – Illegal pitch or Balk

10. From this position he may turn his shoulders to check runners. He must come to a complete stop w/the ball in both hands before pitching to the batter. He cannot turn his shoulders after coming set to check runners. Turning the head is okay. He may turn on his pivot foot or jump turn and step toward a base and throw to a base.

11. He may faint to a base as long as he legally vacates the pitching plate. To change from the set position to the windup or windup to set he must step clearly back off the rubber with his pivot foot.
