Hipòtesis de Ryosuke Montani, establerta vuit anys més tard. Si bé l’any 1993 es féu l’anterior classificació, en aquests vuit anys s’han fet nous descobriments que han estat clau per la reordenació, encara que possiblement no definitiva, de la situació dels ictiosaures en l’escala evolutiva.

  1. Hipòtesis de Ryosuke Montani, establerta vuit anys més tard. Si bé l’any 1993 es féu l’anterior classificació, en aquests vuit anys s’han fet nous descobriments que han estat clau per la reordenació, encara que possiblement no definitiva, de la situació dels ictiosaures en l’escala evolutiva. La hipòtesi de Ryosuke Montani és la més actualitzada (publicada en Investigación y Ciencia. Febrer 2001). Es basa i s'estructura respecte a descobriments molt recents de vestigis fòssils d’ictiosaures antics, realitzats al Japó i a China.
