Student #1 ESLPersonal • 17 year old Hispanic female • Her primary language is Spanish. • She is average height and average weight for an eleventh grade girl. • Her family is middle class • She lives with her mother and three sisters. • One is older and two are younger • Her parents still have a business in the Dominican Republic, so her Dad lives there most of the year. • The family travels back and forth between Georgia and the Dominican Republic throughout the year.

Student #1Academic • She reads at her grade level • She excels at science and math. • She is in a trigonometry class. • Her least favorite subject is social studies, because she does not know a lot of American history. • She receives no extra help in the classroom. • She is a visual and auditory learner.

Student #1Social • She is very quiet in the classroom because she is not sure of her grammar at times. • She is a good student, she gets good grades and completes all assignments • She does not participate in class discussion, but does take very thorough notes • She is very liked by her classmates and the teacher • She smiles all the time

She is very thin. • She is middle class • She has an older sister, two younger step-sisters, and one younger half brother. • She lives with her Dad and her step-mother. • She was born in New York, but has lived in Georgia since she was a baby. • Her Dad started college, but never finished. He works for AT&T • Her step mom does not work. • Her mother is going to school to be a pastry chef.

Student #3Social • She participates in all class discussions and volunteers for reading aloud • She is a teacher’s dream student: she completes all her work on time, she excels in class, she has a positive attitude in the classroom, and she is very popular with classmates and teachers. • She is admonished sometimes for talking too much.

Differentiate • Student #1: Follow up more with her before, during, or after class. • Student #2 :He is invisible in the classroom; try to draw him out by asking him what he thinks. • Student #3: Use her academic and social ability to help with other students who are not as confident or knowledgeable as she is.
