Course Aim: To enable students to: 1- Learn methodology of the plant design process and its application to the design of chemical processes. 2- Provide students to the knowledge of flow sheet drawing, analysis of profits obtained from investments, understand Hazards, safety, and detailed design procedures for equipment. 3- Select the appropriate plant layout and to choose the suitable plant location. 4- Enable the students to choose the methods, which obtains a profitable project.

Intended Learning outcomes: A- Knowledge and understanding: • a6-i List different types of material of construction. • a6-ii Define the suitable type of material of construction. • a6-iii Describe fabrication of equipments. • a8-i List equipment designation for the most common equipment. • a8-ii Describe flow sheet symbols for the important equipment. • a8-iii Define scale up and safety factors in plant design. • a8-iv Describe the mechanism of plate tower. • a8-v List different types of liquid mixers. • a8-vi Name different types of gravity settlers. • a8-vii Describe the mechanism of pumps and compressors. • a8-viii List different types of pumps and compressors. • a11-i Define health and safety hazards. • a11-ii List the important parameters of general design considerations. • a14-i Describe the methodology of the design process. • a14-ii List different types of process units. • a14-iii Define feasibility survey. • a14-iv Identify different types of flow diagram. • a14-v Explain the importance of flow sheets and how they are presented.
