One year after the devastating earthquake in Sichuan, China, CARITAS Taiwan and various Church groups organized a Memorial Day event to remember the lives lost and celebrate the hope of rebuilding. Through their efforts, CARITAS Taiwan distributed food, clothing, and helped construct schools and libraries. Despite the challenges, the event brought immense hope to the affected community.

  1. 希望無限 IMMENSE HOPE Memorial Day in Sichuan, China May 12, 2009

A year after the devastating earthquake hit Sichuan China, different Church groups and NGOs including CARITAS Taiwan immediately responded to the different needs of the people who suffered destructions and traumas. Throughout the year, CARITAS Taiwan continued to journey with the local people in rebuilding their lives by distributing food, clothes, constructing schools and libraries, etc. Mr. Paul Liu, a CARITAS staff and the local volunteers, hosted a Memorial Day with the theme, “Immense Hope” to remember the thousands of lives claimed on that unforgettable day and to celebrate hope for those who are left behind.

  3. People are stuck along the high way because the road to Cheng Du is still under reconstruction. Mr. Paul Liu of CARITAS Taiwan is trying to negotiate with the authorities to let them pass.

  4. The road is really tough and rough ! This is the car used by CARITAS Taiwan. A bulldozer is trying to push this big truck out of the mud.

  5. Paul Liu, enjoying stops along the way. The car of CARITAS Taiwan got stuck in the mud, too.

  6. Finally, they arrived and unloaded boxes of housewares for the people. Excited children carrying their chairs to watch the program.

  7. Crowds started to flock… The theme of the program is “IMMENSE HOPE.” CARITAS Taiwan staff and local volunteers hosted the program. Primary and secondary school students nicely prepared for the occasion.

  10. Paul Liu is overwhelmed by the presentations and the eagerness of the people. CARITAS Taiwan distributes school subsidies to the young people.

  11. Hand in hand with the local community and local volunteers, CARITAS Taiwan brought hope to the people of Sichuan, China. On behalf of CARITAS Taiwan, Paul Liu, presented a souvenir for the memorial of May 12, 2008 earthquake victims.
