  2. Evidence of Health Problem • About 20,000 people in Daviess County are obese (Health Communities Institute, 2012). • Number of inactive people (29%) • Number of people who do eat fruits and vegetables (15%)

  3. Diseases Associated with Obesity • Technology has been advancing at a faster rate than ever. • As medical technology advances, more and more diseases are being discovered that are linked to obesity. • Some of these diseases are • Diabetes • Hypertension • Heart failure • Various types of cancer • High Blood Pressure

  4. Video • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ7wWGt_-bo&safe=active

  5. Proposed Solution • Our proposed solution is a kickball tournament, which can help reach a broad audience and educate them on how fun physical activity can be and to inform them on the effects and illnesses associated with obesity. • We will educate our audience of ways to • Avoid becoming diabetic • Educate people on eating a healthy diet • Perform proper exercise while showing our audience exercise can be fun

  6. Purpose • Through research, we have discovered obesity is a large problem in Daviess County that should be addressed. The purpose of our project is to • Raise money for the YMCA so they can purchase new equipment for our cause • Promote physical activity • Prove that you can have fun while exercising • Educate our audience on healthy diets

  7. Project Summary • The first step in our project is to obtain the grant money so we can perform our project. • We plan on hosting the kickball event where we will host a tournament on OCTC campusifwe receive our grant. • After the tournament we will hand out the prizes to the team that won. • Once the prizes are handed out, we will give a speech out and then have our audience fill out a “quiz” to see what they learned.

  8. Available Resources • There are many resources we have available to our expense. • Some of the resources available to us include the following: • OCTC Campus • Necessary items for fundraising • Daviess County High School Campus • Daviess County Public Library • Parents and students to help us execute our project

  9. Goals and Objectives • Goal- Our goal is to raise awareness in our community of the effects of obesity and its partner, diabetes. We will be giving a speech to ensure we educate our audience. • Objectives- Our objective is to educate at least 100 people about how to change their lives, so they may reach more people, helping our cause. The more people we educate, the more overall success we will achieve through our project.

  10. Objectives (cont’d.) • We also want to raise money for the YMCA to help give back to the community. • The money would be used for purchasing new equipment. The YMCA can choose to purchase any new equipment they need so they can provide excellent service for the general public. • We want to promote physical activity. • Our group feels that if we educate a decently sized group and donate to the YMCA, we can make a large difference in our community.

  11. Outcome • Our outcome is going to be to raise $600 in profit for the YMCA, so they replace and purchase new sports equipment, help us promote physical activity while we are raising awareness on obesity and its effects. We are hoping that all the outcomes that are expected put together will result in the community as a whole gaining some health benefits and learning about more healthy lifestyles.

  12. Evaluation • In order to make sure that our project had some success and that people actually learned something they can use to benefit themselves, we will perform an interview at the end of the program to make sure our kickball tournament functioned properly. This interview will include questions on a paper about the information we covered. We will look over the material in order to ensure that our program worked on the people who came.
