  4. City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project History • 1988 – IDOT and FHWA approved “The Improvement of U.S. 30 in Story County” • 1994 and 1995 – IDOT purchase right of way of 65 acres during construction of the 4-lane section from Nevada to Colo.

City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project History • 2000 – IDOT included this project in the 2000 five –year plan for 2005-6 construction. • 2001 – IDOT had to drop the project due to financial considerations. • Current – City continues to keep this project as a priority as traffic counts increase and accidents intensify.

  7. City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project Traffic Safety Concerns • 3 at-grade intersections within 1.5 miles along US Highway 30 • Numerous crashes at the S-14 intersection with the majority of crashes caused by failure to yield to oncoming traffic

City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project Traffic Safety Concerns(Continued) • Recognition that the S14 at-grade intersection is a safety concern by the DOT, which warranted the installation of flashing warning lights in 2005 • Speed limit change through the corridor from 65 mph to 55 mph due to traffic volumes, safety, sight distance and at-grade intersections location • 64 crashes in the corridors between 2001-2010

City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project Traffic Volume • 100% increase in traffic volumes from 1987 to 2003 • Major increase in truck volumes caused by the influx of Bio-energy facilities • Substantial truck traffic increases expected with pending industrial project proposals • Increased pressure to improve U.S. HWY 30 to a 4-lane corridor across the state

  14. City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project Traffic Volume (Continued) • U.S. HWY 30 corridor is a major freight intermodal corridor across the state due in part to the Union Pacific Railroad main east-west route not allowing additional terminals along its mainline

  15. City of NevadaUS Highway 30 Interchange Project Request – How can this project be advanced? • The City had recently committed $1m for this project, now they have increased it to $1.5m.
