The aims of Holocaust Memorial Day are: • To raise awareness and understanding of the events of the Holocaust, and the events leading up to the Holocaust, as a continuing issue for all humanity; • To ensure that the horrendous crimes, racism and victimisation committed during the Holocaust are neither forgotten nor repeated; • To state the need to remain vigilant in the light of more recent atrocities; • To promote a democratic and tolerate society that celebrates diversity and is free of the evils of prejudice and racism and other forms of bigotry; • To highlight the values of universal dignity and equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens.
