The Islamic Iranian art relies heavily on the Sassanid heritage, but it is limited to some of its forms. In other words, the Arab invasion of the 7th century AD. did not remove the flourishing Sassanid style, but introduced into it the Islamic element, which had a remarkable impact on most forms of Persian art. This influence is reflected both in the shape and type of the basic architectural plan and in the style of exterior decorations.
