  2. About Maria Martinez • Lived in the San Ildefonso pueblo in New Mexico • Became known for her ceramic vessels • Inspired by prehistoric Native American pottery that was found • Maria created the vessels and her husband Julian painted them using the black-on-black technique

  3. Both Maria and Julian would sign the pottery since it was a collaborative effort. Maria and Julian enjoyed the artistic collaboration that they shared which would last for many decades.

  4. Make sure you meet the following requirements: • Experimented with form • Sturdy vessel that is smoothed • Foot • Body • Neck • At least 6" tall/wide • At least 4" wide/tall • Geometric surface design • "Black-on-Black" Glaze technique used • Idea sketches completed Requirements

Body This is the main part of the pot that will hold the contents of the vessel Foot This is the very bottom, or base of your project
