Here are a few tips for you to take care of your braces with an active lifestyle- • Brushing and flossing Though brushing and flossing is a regular procedure for good oral hygiene, it becomes more prominent when you have braces. It is important to brush your teeth after every meal. A soft tooth brush is a must here. Flossing is another cleansing method which is as important as brushing. Flossing at least once a day is imperative. Floss between your teeth, between braces and wires with a threader. Make sure that no food is left stuck as it starts oral problems. • Think before you eat With braces, you need to watch out the food items that you eat. One wrong food item can cause several problems. Avoid food items which are chewy or sticky and which can cause cavities and staining on your teeth. Before you take a bite, ask yourself if it will harm your braces or your teeth. Hard foods like nuts and apples, hard rolls, bagels, etc should be strictly avoided. Eating crunchy food items like popcorn or chips is not even an option. Caramel toffees, chewing gums or other sticky foods are not even required to be mentioned. • Thorough cleaning Apart from brushing and flossing, cleaning your teeth after every meal is important. When you eat sugary food, do remember to drink more water to clean extra sugar from your teeth to avoid cavities.
