  2. EXTENDED PROGRAMMES • As from 2015 CHS will no longer offer alternative pathway for both degree and diploma • Students whom were registered previously will be allowed to complete until 2015 1st semester

  3. ADMISSION TO BACHELOR’S DEGREE • Students who complied with the statutory requirements but does not meet the language requirement can alternatively register and complete the Higher Certificate in Archives and Records Management or Abet Certificate in order to be admitted to degree studies, provided that they meet the admission requirements . NB HCARM is not designed to be a bridging course for admission purposes.

  4. +45 • If a student cannot submit proof of his/her Tuition language requirement on matric level, the student application must be declined. • For example: If a student has an endorsement on his/her matriculation certificate, but the English is EN2H33, then the student may not register for the bachelors degree and DOES NOT qualify for admission for the Higher certificate and Diploma as well, because of the Language requirements.

  5. UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUMS • MAJOR SUBJECT – Please concentrate on the major combinations before processing registration. • If a student completed a BA general degree with Psychology as one of the majors, the student is not allowed to offer any specialisation Psychology degree (COU/CHP/APP) or if a student completed a BA Politics, the student is not allowed to offer the Policy study degree, since the major will be the same.

  6. 02291 – (PAF), Note that the following modules have been removed from the curriculum, since they involve practical’s and students must have completed the Nursing Diploma in order to register for them. • CMH2601 HMA2603 • HSE2601 HMA2602 • HSE2602 HMA2601 • HSE2603 CMH2602

  7. 02291-GENBachelor of Arts Human & Social Studies • (Rules) • Students may complete with one or two major subjects from the subjects prescribed in the calendar. • Research in Social Sciences (RSC2601) is a compulsory module on second year level. • 02054(NEW)– Bachelor of Social Work • The period of offering has been extended till 2017.

  8. 99309 – Bachelor of Social Work • New admission requirement i.e. 60% Language of teaching and Learning plus 50% in any 3 subjects. • The total number of credits of this qualification has been increased from 480 to 516. The rationale being to comply with the requirements of the professional body (SACSSP).

  9. The affected modules thereof are: • SCK4802 • SCK4804 • SCK4806 • All this 3 practical modules will be increased from 12 to 24 credits.

  10. As from 2015, the pre-requisite for SCK4810 will only be RSC2601. • DSAR06 will not be allowed for this qualification in the first semester, since all 4th level are year modules i.e the last semester will be the 2nd Semester.

  11. BTH (99305) – Rules • The curriculum comprises of 30 modules with three streams: 99305 – GEN (1 Major), 99305 GE2 (2 Majors), 99305 –GE4 (4 Half Majors). • Two fundamental modules: CGM1501, which must be done in the first semester and BTH3720, which may only be done in the semester in which the degree is completed. • There are three structures in place: • 8 --- 10 --- 12 • 8 --- 12 --- 10 • 8 --- 11 --- 11

  12. Take note of all tracks on each level per specialisation: CMM/CGM/ECH&OTS/TIC • 99305 - GEN (1 Major) all structures applicable. • 99305 – GE2 (2 Majors) only two structures applicable 8– 10--- 12 & 8--- 11– 11 only. • 99305 - GE4 (4 Half Majors) 8 – 12– 10 only one structure applicable.

  14. 99310 B Information Science • The modules can be exempted from the NDLIS- BINF (refer to the hand outs). • 99310 – Exemptions can be granted from NDARS (refer to the hands outs). • Students who completed NDINF must apply for exemptions towards the degree and not register for NDP to get admission to honours.

  15. MODULES PHASING OUT The following English modules will be phased out in 2014: Replaced by the following in 2015: ENN303M ENG3701 ENN311M ENG3702 ENN314Q ENG3703 ENN207N ENG3704 ENN315R ENG3705 English third level will no longer be four but five i.e there will be 3 modules on 2nd level.

  16. POST GRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS • Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science (90003) from 2015. Take note of the admission requirement: Candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree in any other field or a Btech in any other field outside the field of Library and Information Science. However the 60% average is still required.

  17. 98619 – Honours in Integrated Organisational Communication • Students who would like to register for the above mentioned qualification and does not have the 60% required. • The following are NDP modules to be registered:

  18. COM3701, COM3706, COM3708 and two modules from the following: • COM3702, COM3703, COM3704,COM3705 & COM3707. • 98418 – Honours in Media Studies • The following are NDP modules to be registered:

Compulsory modules for NDP: • COM3702, COM3703, COM3706 and two modules from the following: • COM3701, COM3704, COM3705, COM3707 & COM3708. • These third level modules must be completed with an average of 60% to gain access to Honours Communications. • NB students may not repeat passed modules at Unisa.(specifically CMN).

  20. Students who completed NDPUBR – at Unisa ,will get admission to honours in Communication only if they obtained 60% on the third level modules in the Diploma and also 60% on the NDP modules. • Four compulsory NDP modules : • COM3701, COM3702, COM3703, COM3706 and one module from • COM3704, COM3705

  21. All students will have to apply and receive a letter from the department of Communication Science before they can register for these NDP modules.

  22. 03298 – Honours in HIV – will be phasing out in 2015 ( available for repeaters only) . Advise students to apply for the new qualification (99425), which has been implemented effective from 2012.

  23. 0555X – N11 –Students will qualify for honours admission on completion of a programme in Archival Studies and M+3 qualification. • 98574– Take note of the admission requirement i.e clinical knowledge of diseases (not only HIV knowledge ) refer to the hand out .
