  2. Leadership Styles • You have been introduced to each leadership style this morning.   3. Think for a moment of the benefits and drawbacks for each management style and include your thoughts in the table below by clicking into the corresponding text box.

Consultative These are what we consider to be the main traits of each leadership style Authoritative Instructs and Directs Controls Allocates roles/responsibilities Supervises all activity States how tasks are to be done Gives instructions Offers feedback Monitors performance Will consider team members ideas

  5. Delegative Styles Supportive Active team member Involves all in decisions Shares responsibility Allows team to make decisions Exchanges feedback to improve performance Steps away from the team Advises only when appropriate Delegates to the team

We considered that some behaviours matched some of the leadership styles • If you need to TELL someone something [ Authoritative] • If you need to SELL a concept to the team [Consultative] • If you want the team to PARTICIPATE then be [supportive] • If you want to ENABLE a team (under caution – see self directed teams) [delegative]

A leader is someone you choose to followto a place you wouldn't go by yourself If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. A leader must have the courage to act against an expert's advice The leaders who work most effectively think "we"; they think "team." Good leaders must first become good servants “A leader is best when people barely know they exist, when their work is done, their aim fulfilled, people say: we did it ourselves.” Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others, it is the only means

  9. Leader’s promote creativity in the workplace When we think of leaders we know, how well are they at promoting creativity in the workplace? This means that new ideas are created to come up with solutions to current or future problems.. • In order to promote ownership and a sense of responsibility, allowing a work team to find their own solutions is a key trait of good leadership. • Follow the links on the next page to find out more…

Self Managed Teams Power to the People The videos you just watched should have given you some ideas about creativity and innovation and how that can be utilised in the workplace to promote the idea of self managed teams… think about how you might be able to promote such an ethos in your place of work and make any relevant notes.
