The CHIETA Regional Skills Forum aims to identify strategic skills development issues, gather input from stakeholders, discuss grants for 2013-2014, and update the Sector Skills Plans. This program is targeted towards CHIETA companies, organized labor, government departments, and accredited providers.

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Purpose of RSF • Identify strategic skills development issues within the region • Obtain input from stakeholders within the region (particularly employers, organised labour and targeted government departments) into the Sector Skills Plans (SSP). • Provide feedback on the WSP-ATR & PP 2013-2014 • Discuss the process for the Discretionary Grants (Pivotal and non-pivotal) for 2013-2014 • Target Group: • CHIETA companies: SDFs/ HRD Managers • Organised Labour representatives within CHIETA companies • CHIETA Chamber members • Government Departments • Public FETs and HETs and CHIETA accredited providers

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Organising Framework for Occupations • What is the OFO? • Coded occupational categorisation system used for identifying, reporting and monitoring skills demand and supply in the South African labour market • get updated annually with input from industry • All learning programs, occupations and interventions identified in the SSP have to be aligned to the OFO

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Organising Framework for Occupations • Why the OFO? • Adds value to skills planning and implementation • Provides common language for occupations • Frames jobs in the form of occupations • Groups occupations into successfully broader categories and levels based on similarity of tasks, skill and knowledge

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability OFO & Occupational Profiling • Job titles more consistent and specific to the output of a position • Profile of an occupation broader and informs the position profile and job description • Good profile of an occupation provides the basis for the qualification design • Occupational and individual skills survey based on • occupational profile data → correct OFO alignment and mapping • CHIETA 1st Occupation Profile Dictionary(Dec 2012) to be updated in 2013

What are the implications for skills development? • What are the main skills needs in the sub-sector/s? • Skills shortages? Specific areas current employees require training? • What are the constraints in the supply of skills in the sub-sector/s?

(Consider current & planned) • What partnerships (eg industry & public FETs, Universities & UoTs) need to be built/strengthened to address the skills needs? • What community initiatives related to the sub-sector/chemical sector are taking place in the region?

Guidance to breakaway groups • Break into groups based on your sub-sector; if cross-cutting (eg govt), you choose • Group facilitator has been allocated • Note-taker has been allocated • Each group to provide brief feedback to plenary of top 10 points emerging. Group to choose reportee • Venues for groups
