  6. Positioning • Being in the best position to make the correct call in different aspects of play

  7. Positioning Kick off – both deep – one TJ on the dead ball line, other TJ on the goal line (flag) (unless conditions dictate otherwise) TJ1 Kick Off TJ2

  8. Positioning 20 metre restart – both TJ`s on the 30 metre line (Where practical) Implications of 2008 Interpretation – be alert to kicks/touch/head & feed TJ1 20 metre re start TJ2

  9. Positioning 20 metre drop out – both TJ`s on the half way (unless conditions dictate otherwise) TJ1 20 metre drop out TJ2

  11. Positioning Play the ball near the oppositions goal line – Far TJ monitors 10 metres, near TJ over the ruck TJ1 Direction of play Play of the ball TJ2

  12. Positioning Play the ball near teams own goal line (Up to 30 metres) – Both TJ`s on the ten metres unless very close to the touch line TJ1 Direction of play Play of the ball TJ2

  13. Positioning Play the ball in other areas – Far TJ on ten, near TJ over ruck (within 20 metre of touch) if centre field both TJ on the ten TJ1 Direction of play Play of the ball TJ2

  18. Positioning Tries– 1 metre short of the goal line (TJ is saying he has input to give the referee) TJ1

Positioning When the try has been awarded the try must be marked by the TJ on the goal line, parallel to the touch line and in line where the ball was grounded the other TJ taking his position behind the posts to judge the kick at goal TJ1 The ball can be placed anywhere in line with the TJ when kicking for goal

  21. Positioning Penalties – (Kick to touch) Nearest side TJ 20m up field (anticipating the kick), far side TJ marks the ten. When the ball enters touch the TJ must mark where the ball crossed the touch line TJ1 Direction of play Penalty mark TJ2

  22. Positioning Kicks in general play – Nearside TJ to monitor the kicker and then go with play – Far side TJ to follow the ball and monitor TJ1 TJ2

  25. Movement • Looking in field • Get to next play position (refer to play of the ball session planners or re start session planner) • Alert and sharp

  26. Verbal communication • Communicate with the players (If there is no communication system) • A verbal communication call can be made to the referee via a communication system • For Verbal communication refer to Communication Session Planner
