  1. CASE STUDY First i-desk Walk-in High Street Internet Café “Sip & Surf” Cafe, Loughborough Collaboration between i-desk Solutions, Karten Trust & Homefield College i-desk’s latest success opened recently in Loughborough High Street. The first walk-in Internet café and eBay shop using i-cyber for Internet surfing and gaming, i-folddesks for eBay logging & monitoring and height adjustable i-vari desks, ideal for wheelchair users. Homefield College is an independent specialist college that provides for long-term residents with autistic spectrum disorders, communication difficulties or learning disabilities. Their mission is to give learners and long term residents a wide variety of opportunities to become independent, according to their skills and potential. The College is committed to meeting the needs of these learners and has seen the effectiveness of integrating ICT into this process. The College is constantly reviewing and developing its use of ICT in order to raise learner achievement. In 2010, the vision of the College was to provide a public service in the High Street of Loughborough in the form of an Internet café and Charity Shop for items not sold on eBay. This walk-in cafe would offer residents face-to-face contact with members of the public and would cover skills associated with the catering and hospitality industries. i-desk were called in for an initial site meeting to discuss their integrated PC desk solutions. 3D plans were drawn up and the solution was agreed. Firstly, security of the new equipment was paramount to the College and i-desk were able to prove they have never had an i-desk® stolen in over 10 years. Wheelchair access to the PC was key – this was provided with the height-adjustable i-vari desk. With limited space available, i-fold desks were a perfect space-saving solution, as they store away when not in use flat against a wall. The “Wow” factor sought by Homefield was delivered with i-desk’s i-cyber. The Sip & Surf Cafe can be visited at 16 Market Street, Loughborough. 16 Market Street i-cyber i-fold i-desk Solutions Limited Maxon House Hogwood Lane Finchampstead Wokingham Berks RG40 4QW t: +44 (0)118 973 9700 e: info@i-desk.co.uk
