  2. S.S. Theme = Culture • The social studies theme that best connects to our field trip to A Day In Pompeii is “culture”. • Since the exhibit primarily focused on the culture and society of Pompeii before the volcanic eruption destroyed the city and its inhabitants, this theme fits best. • While a portion of the exhibit did explain the volcanic eruption and its after effects, the majority focused on the culture of Pompeii. • The exhibit showcased different artifacts from Pompeii ranging from statues, to bathtubs, to bowls, to armor, to medical instruments. • Looking at these objects and reading blurbs about their original usage gave students an insight into the culture of Pompeii.

  3. S.S. Standards WORLD HISTORY • 8.4.3.A: Identify the elements of culture and ethnicity. • 8.4.3.B: Identify the importance of artifacts and sites to different cultures and ethnicities.
