  1. CrushGary Paulson2012Realistic Fiction Ashlin M. 6th period

  2. Setting • Ice Skating Rink- It has a concession stand and a rink for the ice skaters and a rink for the hockey players. Kevins’ brother is on the hockey team. It gives meaning to the story because Kevin is trying to get data on how a relationship starts so that way he will know how to talk to Tina and not look like a total idiot in front of her.

  3. Characters

  4. Conflict • Kevin wants Tina to be his girlfriend, but Tina is hanging out with the new guy Cash. He wants to ask her out the right way but he doesn’t know if she likes him or not. So he asks his brother and sister and his friend JonPaul on what girls like in a guy. The type of conflict is Man v Man.

  5. Summary of Plot • Kevin really likes this girl named Tina and he wants her to go out with him, but he doesn’t know how to ask her. So he asks his sister what girls like in a guy. He tells his brother to invite a bunch of girls and guys so Kevin can see how they talk with each other. He goes on a date with his friend JonPaul and his girlfriend Samantha.

  6. Theme • Love is about Chemistry. Chemistry is science. • Kevin tries to see what happens in a relationship: “I rushed into the kitchen to go watch my parents relationship. “ Page 26 • He goes on date with his friend JonPaul and his girlfriend: “Hey JonPaul can I go on your date with Samamtha.” Page 54 • He sets up a blind date for his friend Goober on a date: “Hey Goober do you want to go on a blind date.” Page 87

  7. Point of View • Third-Person (Omniscient) because it talks about everyone's feelings and it uses words like he, she, and they through out the story. If the author would have chosen first-person it would be saying “I” a lot in the story. It could be talking about one person.

  8. Symbolism • A heart because the story talks about love. The heart resembles love. Love affects the story by a young boy falling in love with Tina. The symbol is what you think about when you are talking about love.

  9. Recommendation • The book Crush is worth reading. It’s a cute book for kids that are in middle school to junior high. The book talks about young love. If you are interested in young love then you should definitely read this book. If your not interested in young love then this is not the book for you.
