  1. GCSE Moving Image Arts • Three components: • 1- An examination- this will be sat in June 2019 and will have three different sections assessing your knowledge and application of film language, the industry itself and practical production understanding. • 2. Controlled assessment completed in year 11 on a series of tasks given by CEA. • 3. Controlled assessment where you get to put together all you have learned in creating your own professional production.(Year 12)

  2. Assessment- Component 1-40% • One exam • 1 hour 30 minutes • Watch a range of previously unseen audio and visual clips and short film sequences • Answer questions that assess analysis and evaluation of film language, audience and purpose • Scenario based questions that assess creative and production management skills.

  3. Assessment- component 2-20% • Skills in moving image production • Complete four tasks that test: • Storyboarding • Camera and editing • Sound • Animation

  4. Assessment –component 3- 40-% • Compulsory controlled assessment portfolio: • Research analysis • Pre-production material • A completed moving image produce • An evaluation

  5. Year 11-Term One • In term one-you will be analysing six film genres as set by CEA (the examination board): • Horror • The Western • Action/adventure • Romantic Comedy • Science Fiction • Crime

  6. Genre Theory, narratives, representations • You will be studying these film “types” to identify how they are different, how they are the same and why genre is so important to film producers and audiences. • You will be looking at how narratives are created and how audiences respond to them. • Representation- How film uses a frame to create a world and people that we recognise but who are not real.

  7. Year 11: Term Two: • You will be learning and studying film language, in detail. • You will be completing the four set tasks for your CA • These will be giving you the skills you need to prepare you for your final Controlled Assessment in year 12.

  8. Year 11: Term three: • Industry Practices and Contexts • This is the business and the practical side of film making. • Health and safety • Scheduling • Film Distribution, marketing, how studios work.

  9. In short you will be: • Analysing and watching films • Making films • Editing films • Evaluating and writing about what you see and what you do.

  10. Who is the course for: • Film enthusiasts who genuinely enjoy film and want to learn more about the practical and theoretical side of film-making. • People who understand that there is a lot of work to do with film theory. • Creative and hardworking students who realise that there will be quite a bit of writing to do.

  11. Who is it not for: • People who fancy having a go with a camera • People who believe that Moving Image Arts is about watching films • Anyone who thinks you will be writing less- you will be analysing film in as much detail as you study a novel! • Anyone who thinks that making a film or using editing software is easy.

  12. Careers and Further Study • We offer the subject at A Level between ourselves and Kilkeel High school. • There are many universities that offer film studies • It would be extremely useful for a career in the media or film industry.
