  2. Fantasy Play • Play is a big part of a young Childs day • Fantasy play (make believe) are opportunities for growth and development • Through observation we can gain insight into their cognitive, social, and emotional development

  3. Dramatic Play • Child imitates another person or acts out a situation • Socio-dramatic play involves several children imitating others and acting out situations (complex form of play) • Puppetry play allows a child to imitate others • Through play a child shares there inner world • Project – place feelings and emotions into the play

  4. Guiding Play and Puppetry Experiences • Describe the stages of play • Solitary • Parallel • Cooperative

  5. Solitary • Independent play • Play is exploratory • Child is gathering information • Infants

  6. Parallel Play • Toddler and Two’s • Play is beside each other, not with each other • Little interaction

  7. Cooperative Play • Play between two or more children • They learn to respect the property of others • They learn that permission is needed to play with some things • They are more willing to share

  8. Socio-dramatic Play • When children play together they form social relationships • Aggressive, uncooperative children can have problems with cooperative play. • For cooperative play the child needs to be friendly and considerate.

  9. Personification • Means giving human traits to non-living things • Through play they will talk to the objects they are playing with. • They act like the toys can hear and understand what they are saying • Typical behavior
