  2. Aim & Research The aim of this piece was to design a poster effectively to advertise our film. The criteria we needed to meet consisted of: • Title • Tag Line • Billing Block • Image I used film posters including ‘Titanic’ and ‘Gladiator’ to help me understand the techniques that are used. The following shows my analysis of why I used the aspects I did and how effective they are.

  3. Analysis The title is an imperative part of the poster. I needed to make sure it was easy to read against the back picture as well as making sure it would draw attention to the poster itself. The connotations of the full stop suggest it’s more to the point and authoritative.

  4. I was keen to make sure that there was a contrast with the colours I used. I feel that the darkness of the left corner works well with the red brick wall, (which represents danger) and that having my title and credits in white allowed me to bring them out of the image to stop the title from being drained out.

  5. It was important to make sure that the poster had a billing block at the bottom of the page. Not only that but it needed to be relevant to our group. This involved me downloaded a font style similar to ‘real’ film posters. I used Film 4 as our suggested film studio as it seemed appropriate being an English film studio. This is an important factor as it needs to be specific to our film.

  6. I chose this image as it clearly shows one of the main characters, as well as keeping some information discreet, for example the case he is holding. This allows the audience to know that the case is clearly key to the film but they are kept in the dark as to what it is.

  7. The tag line is an important factor as it allows the audience to associate something to the title. It also is a suggestive spoiler which furthers the concept of mystery. The poster includes a website to allow the audience to refer to the film and read into more detail. This would include reviews and teasers.
