  2. Fiber Tracker Overview stereo axial stereo axial • Scint Fibers • 830mm Æ, multiclad • 1.6-2.5m active length • 10m clear waveguide to photodetector • rad hard (100 krad) (10yr @ 20cm @1032) • Fiber Ribbons • 8 axial doublets • 8 stereo doublets (3o pitch) • Readout • 77,000 channels • VLPC readout • run at low temp (9 K) • fast pickoff for trigger • SVXII readout side view end view

  3. Prototype Commissioning • At Lab 3, a prototype cosmic ray test has been underway for about a year. • To date: • Tested two cylinders (3A & 3B) • Lightguides and connectors • Prototype cassettes (final design) • Cryogenics and control • Prototype analog electronics boards (‘stereo’ boards, with SVX-II readout) • Standalone sequencer • DAQ • Soon • Final sequencers • VRB readout • Eventually • Final analog board (AFE) shakedown

  7. Pre-installation Commisisoning • At Lab 3, all components of the CFT will be tested. • Fiber positions are surveyed. • During nesting, each cylinder is aligned to the others on CMM. • CFT arrives at DAB as a single-piece unit. • Each VLPC cassette is qualified at Lab 3 • Each lightguide is tested at ND or IU prior to shipping.

  8. Necessary Components • Installation • Support fixtures • Installation fixtures • Fiber bundles • Installation and Commission • Cassettes • Cryostat and cryogenics plant • Electronics (readout, temperature and voltage control, LEDs) • Gas system • DA system • Tracking code • Examines, etc. • Pre-Installation and Pre-Commissioning

  9. Cryogenics Russ Rucinski Bob Barger • Two independent cryostats • Most material either in house or on order. • Fabrication 11/4/99 - 4/7/00 • Installation 4/10/00 - 4/28/00 • Shakedown 4/28/00 - 6/12/00 • Prototype installed and running at Lab 3 7/15/97. Cryostat positions, relative to DØ (Nothing to Scale)

  10. Lab 3 VLPC Cryostat Russ Rucinski Bob Barger Test Cryostat - holds 4, full-size VLPC cassettes. Provided input to final cryo design Fully Tested Meets specification
