  1. Semi-Fluorinated Polymers as Responsive Interfaces DvoraPerahia, Clemson University, DMR 0907390 • Incorporation of Silicon and Fluorinated segments in random co-polymers results in thin coatings with an interface that changes its properties upon exposure to humidity. • Responsive coating, where the interface changes its properties as a reaction to changes in the environment would impact the design of advanced materials. • Using Neutron Reflectometry and Large scale molecular dynamic simulations we have shown that markedly but small changes in the concentration of F at the interface, change significantly the interfacial properties of the films. • Ratnaweera, Clarson Perahia (Soft Materials, Submitted) • Streshta, Clarson Perahia (2011) • Perahia, Grest (2011) The Interface of a Si-F random co-polymer exposed to water as obtained from Neutron Reflectometry Molecular Dynamic simulations of water on top of a random co-polymer with 96 segments and a block length of 12 at 300oC.

  2. Semi-Fluorinated Polymers as Responsive Interfaces DvoraPerahia, Clemson University, DMR 0907390 A two day workshop on Scattering Techniques in Polymers and Complex Fluids has been organized by the PI at the APS March Meeting Dallas TX 2011. As part of the broad impact of the proposal, the PI has perused multiple activities at Clemson and across the nation to integrate neutron based techniques into the design of new materials. More than 50 participants from different institutions across the world attended. A significant number of women and other minorities participated in this workshop. Attendees at the APS Neutron/X-ray workshop Dallas, March 2011
