  1. Instructions for Graduating Seniors Commencement May 2 – 4, 2008

  2. Friday, May 2Consecration Service 8:00 p.m. • No regalia needed • Sit with whomever you wish, wherever you wish. • Platform party – be on platform by 7:41 PM

  3. Saturday, May 3 • Sabbath School – 10 a.m. – 11:Sharp • Student led • Baccalaureate – 11:30 AM • No regalia required • Sit wherever you want • Sit with whomever you want. • Platform party – • be on platform by 11:11

  4. Sunday, May 4Commencement • Memorial Auditorium • 8:30 AM – Put on regalia + line up in proper order • Line up in Memorial Auditorium, lower floor, Exhibit Hall • Set as many alarms as you think you will need • Procession will begin at 9:30 sharp

  5. Entering the Auditorium(The Grand Entrance) • Dr. Edwin Reynolds = The Grand Marshal • Platform Party • Faculty • Grand Marshal (Grand Marshal returns for seniors) • Class Officers (single file) • Southern Scholars (single file) • Baccalaureate Degree graduates (single file) • All other candidates (single file) • Associates • Masters • Guests • Grand Marshal returns for Golden Anniversary Class (50-year alumni) at east, side entrance.

  6. Receiving your Diploma • Stand by rows, move to the left • 1st in row proceed to top of stairs, 2nd in row proceed to middle stair, 3rd in row proceed to front of stairs. Move to these positions in turn. • Names announced. If you are not the person called, shake your head, and we will say “In Absentia”. Wait until your name is called. • Walk at a natural pace across the platform • Southern Scholars – stop by Dr. Young to receive your medallion • Proceed to Dr. Bietz • Diploma in left hand above your right hand • Smile for photographer • Shake hands with Ron Smith, vice chair of the Board • Back to your chair + sit down

  7. Exiting the Auditorium • Benediction • Grand Marshal - mace - platform party • Jeremy Micheff will follow the platform participants and lead students out • Each row will march out single file • Keep moving through the lobby area to the road outside the auditorium. The road will be blocked to vehicular traffic. Meet your family there.

  8. Rules and Your Self-Respect • No non-academic embellishments • SAU dress code applies for a few more hours • Flowers, $$, signs, etc. ≠ appropriate • Appropriate clothing / shoes with robe

  9. Rules and Your Self-Respect • Ask your family not to act too surprised when you receive your diploma • Fog horns prohibited by MA • Silly string or confetti prohibited by MA • Hooting & hollering ≠ good (Your family will not hear your name read) • Gifts afterwards • Photos afterwards
