    8. What is this project about? The PEIS will examine the foreseeable environmental impacts of geothermal leasing and associated development on BLM and FS lands with moderate to high potential for geothermal resources in twelve western states including Alaska. The PEIS will also analyze the potential impacts of issuing pending lease applications that were filed before January 1, 2005.

    9. The NEPA Process The PEIS will identify areas that will be closed, open, or open with constraints for leasing. Closed areas may include Wilderness Study Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and other special
