Attract and support Indigenous medical students Promotion of enrolment at Fremantle campus Three(3) Indigenous students enrolled at Sydney campus Review of selection process Currently graduate entry e.g. nursing*, applied science or teaching* degree (* available at Broome campus) Understand the particular needs and strengths of students, close the gaps in eligibility and preparedness to thrive in medicine Supports – financial, housing, educational, pastoral Guiding document Healthy Futures: Defining Best Practice in the Recruitment and Retention of Indigenous Medical Students (AIDA, 2005) Teaching , Scholarship and Research Training for professions Pastoral Care

Develop the curriculum We want more locally trained good doctors in Indigenous health Guiding document CDAMS (now MDANZ) Indigenous Health Curriculum Framework, endorsed by the Australian Medical Council Principled approach Include community, student perspectives, ACCHS perspectives – interested? Integrate with current curriculum Experiential Rural immersion, primary care and hospital placements, electives, other opportunities... Teaching , Scholarship and Research Training for professions Pastoral Care

Aboriginal health service placements Opportunities exist for placements of first, second, third and fourth year students as well as fourth year elective and honours (almost graduated, interview possible) Payments Practice Incentive Payments $100 per session and $110 including GST per session for GP in years one and two $1650 including GST for third and fourth year (more than one GP can be involved) Points – QA&CPD Hopefully some value in service delivery in the ACCHS Students become better doctors, their enthusiasm grows, they start imagining a future career/work in APHC and later higher chance of recruitment at the ACCHS Teaching , Scholarship and Research Training for professions Pastoral Care

  7. Broome campus The Broome Campus offers many courses in flexible modes of delivery. Most courses can be studied  either on or off campus or in a mixed mode (a combination of  on-campus and off-campus studies).  VET courses are all offered in mixed-modes enabling access to students from communities in the Kimberley and areas around Western Australia.
