  5. Beowulf: part 1 - Grendel • Do you believe that evil can be innate? Can a person just be born evil? Defend your position.

  6. Grendel Ex: part 1 - grendel Who do you consider to be the definitive monsters of our time? What values have these creatures transgressed to become so demonized within our society? What earns them the right of being labeled a “monster”? Explain.

  9. Heroism unit • Choose one of your favorite superheroes. What traits do you value in this superhero? • Look back at the recipe you created for a hero. Are those qualities the same as the ones you listed for your superhero? Explain your thoughts on why or why not.

(In other words, how do you decide whom is the monster and whom is the hero?) How much of the monster, and how much of the hero do you have inside of yourself? Explain.
