The Dark World of Sin • We live in a sin-soaked world, 2 Pet. 3:7 • Christ calls us out of the darkness and death of sin, 1 Pet. 2:9 • We live in a world that is not our home and live for a home that we have not yet seen, Heb. 11:13-16 (2 Cor. 5:7) • While the world celebrates sin, we must be saints (holy and separate), 1 Cor. 1:2 • The calling of the gospel and the challenge of our faith, Eph. 4:1; 1 Pet. 2:11-12 2

  3. The World’s Celebration of SinHebrews 11:25 • “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” • Marketing campaign that reveals an attitude toward sin and personal accountability • It’s a lie! Num. 32:23; Heb. 4:13; Gal. 6:7 • Loss of moral purity and innocence, reputation, influence (not to mention the money), Rom. 13:11-14 • Deceptive nature of sin! 3

The World’s Celebration of SinHebrews 11:25 • “There are no rules here!” • Discards moral accountability, 2 Cor. 5:10 • “It feels good, so it must be right.” Prov. 14:12; 28:26; Jer. 17:9 • Feeling good does not mean we are right in God’s sight, Acts 23:1 • Subtlety of sin sears consciences, 1 Tim. 4:1-2 • Truth is not self-defined! 4

In the Lord I put my trustPsalm 11 • When surrounded by enemies and the outcome appeared in doubt, David continued to trust in the Lord, 11:1 • Advisers cast doubt upon trusting God saying, “flee” and “the foundations are destroyed”, yet he did not waver, 11:2-7 • Like David, we must not waver or doubt when the world celebrates sin! • It will not stand, 2 Ths. 1:6-10 7
