  2. A New on line learning resource for all MCA staff available from February 2012. What is Civil Service Learning • Civil Service Learning (CSL) provides courses and resources for a common curriculum of generic skills areas across the MCA and wider Civil Service . • It offers online resources, and e-learning to develop yourself at your desktop, as well as access to booking face to face training courses. • It is an additional resource to MCA current provision of CG, TLG and S&I training • Additional training and e-learning titles will be added for 2012/13 FY through civil service central procurement of training and development of professional work strands. Who is it for • CSL is a resource for everyone. It is open to all staff in the MCA and all UK Civil Servants. How will I access it ? • CSL is a web based resource, and can be accessed from your desktop by following a simple registration process. Headphones will be available on request to access on-line learning with audio.

  4. What development opportunities are offered on CSL? LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Catalogue of face to face training courses, delivered by centrally procured training providers and at various locations. Many E-learning opportunities available from your desktop designed to develop existing skills and learn new ones All resources can be searched by common curriculum and level • LEARNING RESOURCES • A wide range of learning resources on many subjects are available including: • Audio and video files , • Fact sheets and summary pages • Toolkits and activities , • Links to Journal articles, • Downloadable pdf files, • Theories and models • Links to partner resource sites. New titles will be added for 2012/13 FY 22 professional strands with dedicated resources and links to training are being developed, e.g. Communications, Procurement, Programme and Project management ,IT, HR Business Partners, and Policy Profession. Your personal on-line training record to track your learning, evaluate e-learning, reminders of uncompleted courses, and reports to line manager.

  5. The Common Curriculum OverviewCSL resources are delivered under Common Curriculum topics, and can also be searched by appropriate level (e.g. administrator, first line manager, senior manager etc)

  7. ‘On-line learning’ HRAN An HR Advice Note has been developed to support on-line learning in the MCA. The HRAN aims to: • Provide guidance to staff and managers on use of on-line learning including CSL. • Provide guidance on access to on line learning and appropriate usage guide. • Raise awareness of other MCA policy i.e. ICT, H&S etc. • Explain how CSL course bookings are made through the PDP process and how to book courses from L&D budget. • Help you to making the most of on-line learning and developing yourself.   9. Costs of CSL Learning and Development and links to PDPs • Most resources on CSL are free to view and download to the end user. These are paid for by an annual cost per head paid for by the training centre • Training courses and some distance learning will attract an additional charge. Where a training course or a chargeable resource is identified as the training solution it MUST be applied for through the normal PDP process for the payment to be honoured by the Training Centre (please see HRAN) • Time should be considered an indirect cost of using CSL resources. Managers should consider the benefits of people spending appropriate time using on line learning resources, and also the savings of offering e-learning solutions as a first step to meeting their staff development needs • Managers and individuals should also be aware of the impact that inappropriate use of MCA resources and time has on team and MCA performance.
