  1. What are the most common causes of hearing loss? There are different causes of hearing loss and their impact on hearing is variable. A hearing aid enables people hear more in both quiet as well as noisy situations. Whatever may be the cause, it is important to seek medical help immediately. The four most common causes of hearing loss are mentioned below- Ear infection- it is one of the most common cause of hearing loss in children as well as affected adults. Also called as otitis media which is the inflammation of the middle ear. The symptoms are severe earache and hearing loss.An ear infection might cause damage by causing chronic or permanent hearing loss.

  2. Excessive noise- repeated exposure to loud noise and also a single shot from a shotgun at a close range can permanently damage your hearing. The delicate hair cells in the inner ear get damaged resulting in tinnitus and permanent hearing loss. In case you have to be in situations that expose you to loud level of noise, do opt for hearing protection! Ageing- loss associated with presbycusis which is usually for high-pitched sound might occur in individuals as they grow older. It typically occurs in both the ears. It has been estimated that approx 30-35% adults in between the age group of 65 and 75 years suffer from hearing loss. Also, almost 40- 50% adults who are 75 years and above have a hearing loss. Injury to the ear or head- head injury might change the position of three bones of the middle ear and might also rupture the ear drum. A forceful blow can even cause damage to the brain and delicate nerves in the inner ear.
