  1. Interview Techniques Presented by Dr. Vijay Songire Assistant Professor , St. John College of Humanities and Sciences

Objectives • It helps to verify the exactness of the provided facts and data by the candidate. • The interview helps to obtain the additional set of abilities or information of the interviewee. • The interview checks the candidate’s suitability for the job. • It provides general and necessary facts and information about the job and the company. • An interview gives an insight into the candidate’s analytical knowledge and creativity they possess.

  3. Explanation about the job role is given at the time of the interview. The interviewer tells the company’s expectations from him or her. • Through the interview process, the recruiter gets to know about the candidate’s skills and lacks the potential abilities so that they could be trained. • Information flows from both directions, and the interviewee gets to know about the company and the employer.

  4. Significance of Interviews *It is an opportunity for both the interviewer and interviewee to know each other. *An important tool for organizations to select right candidate *A platform for candidates to showcase their talent as well as skills *It helps the management to maintain workforce

Concept and Meaning Interviewer - One who takes the interview (asks questions) Interviewee - One who gives the interview (gives answers) Interviews, when broken down into two separate terms, are ‘inter’ and ‘view’ which means seeing each other. An interview is a formal and in-depth conversation between interviewer and interviewee; they exchange the desired information, which checks the interviewee’s capability.

Nature of the Interview • An interview is a source of accurate information of the interviewee only when it is handled carefully. • It is a significant element of the entire selection procedure of a candidate. • It serves as the basis of examining interviewee’s job-related proficiency, abilities, and technicalities. An interview is a structured conversation where employers ask questions, and the interviewee provides answers. Interviews can be unstructured, open-ended, and free-wheeling conversations without predetermined questions.

  7. Pre- Interview Preparation • Preparing an updated resume • Spend some quality time on resume writing • Do rough work • Do some research • Use a cover letter • Take care of language • & do not forget characteristics of written communication • Use good quality paper for a print

During the Interview • The interviewee should appear formal during the interview • He should appear before 10 minutes before the scheduled time. • He should get ready for the questions related to his/ her field • If in case he does not know the answer kindly provide valid reasons • He should know why he is applying for the company, his roles and responsibilities after joining, future prospects and possibilities of growth in the company • Effective use of Non verbal signs- facial expressions, gestures, posture, eye contact etc.

He should not boast • 10. He should provide true information • 11. Instead of pretending to be knowledgeable it is always okay admitting ignorance during the interview. • 12.
