  3. Chapter 1 & 2New jersey driver license system • A motorist who operated a motor vehicle in the state of NJ MUST carry the following items: • Valid Diver License • Valid Probationary License or Validated NJ Permit • Valid Insurance Card- Liability* • Vehicle Registration Cards

  4. Time requirements • 1. Change Addresses….go to MVC….1 week after moving • 2. Change Last Name….go to MVC…..2 weeks • 3. Move INTO NJ…..go to MVC……60 days • 4. Earn a GDL…..Complete Program….(You are in the process)

  5. Altering driver’s license • Altering a Driver License or presenting an altered Driver License may result in the following consequences: • 1. Fine up to 1,000 and/or up to six months imprisonment Illegally obtaining a Driver License • 1. Fine up to 200-500$ and/or imprisonment of 30 to 90 days.

  8. What is gdl?? • What does it stands for??? Graduated Driver License • How Do You Get It ?? GET IN THE Graduated Driver License Program, it is designed to give new drivers sufficient instruction and practice time to gain experience driving. NOTE : If you pass the test with and 80 or higher you will be able to start the program

STEP 1 –STEP 2Special Learner permit Requirements • MUST BE 16 YRS OLD • ENROLLED IN DRIVING SCHOOL PROGRAM • PASS THE WRITTEN TEST- 80 OR HIGHER (END OF MARKING PERIOD) • AN APPROVED INSTRUCTOR MUST PURCHASE THE PERMIT • COMPLETE 6 HOURS BEHIND THE WHEEL INSTRUCTION • PASS THE VISION TEST WITH 20/50 VISION • PAY FEE

Special learner permitrestrictions • SUPERVISING DRIVER • CURFEW = 11 PM TO 5AM • ONE NON FAMILY MEMBER PASSENGER • ANYONE FROM SHARED RESIDENCE • EX: Supervising Driver, Friend and Sibling • SAFETY BELTS MUST BE WORN BY ALL OCCUPANTS • NO CELL PHONE OR WIRELESS DEVICES WHILE DRIVING *New Law- MUST display decals on License Plates (front n back)

  11. Supervising drivers • MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 21 • MUST HAVE 3 YEARS DRIVING EXPERIENCE • IF YOU COMMIT AN OFFENSE BOTH PARTIES ARE RESPONSIBLE. BOTH PARTIES WILL GET A TICKET.

  12. Step 3prOBATIONARY license requirements(first yr. license) • MUST BE 17 YRS. OLD • 1 YR. OF SUPERVISED DRIVING COMPLETED (PERMIT) • PASS THE ROAD TEST • Note: ONE year from the day you get your license, you must go back to the DMV and get the provisional taken off your license.

  14. STEP 5BASIC DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENTS • AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD • COMPLETED 1 YEAR UNSUPERVISED DRIVING • GO TO DMV AND GET NEW LCENSE • PAY FEE • RESTRICTIONS: • NONE 

ROAD TEST • ON YOUR ROAD TEST THEY WILL TEST YOU ON HOW WELL YOU CAN PARK AND MANUEVER YOUR CAR. • Reverse • Turning • K-Turn aka 3 pt. turn • Stopping • Parallel Parking Note: YOU MUST HAVE AN EMERGENCY BREAK IN THE CENTER COUNSEL FOR THE SAFETY OF THE INSTRUCTORS AT THE DMV. MUST HAVE NO OBSTRUCTION OR CONSOLES PREVENTING INSTRUCTORS ACCESS TO FOOT OR PARKING BRAKE.

  24. CELL PHONE LAW • THE ONLY TIME YOU ARE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING A MOTOR VEHCILE IS WHEN YOU ARE CALLING IN AN EMERGENCY.

  25. GDL • GRADUATED DRIVER LICENSE REQUIRES EVERYONE IN THE CAR TO BE WEARING SEATBELTS. EVEN IN THE BACK SEAT. • VIOLATING ANY OF THE GDL LAW WILL RESULT IN A FINE OF AT LEAST 100 DOLLARS
