  2. Judges 2:13 - They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. The cycle starts with sin They “forsake” the way of God They serve “our gods” of self, pleasure, greed, power, wealth, and lust The Sin Cycle

  3. Judges 2:14 - And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel. - - and He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. They are now into sin They are in the hands of the enemy They can not escape The Sin Cycle

  4. Judges 2:15 - Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for calamity, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them. And they were greatly distressed. God becomes their enemy They are feeling the calamity They are greatly distressed The Sin Cycle

  5. Judges 2:16 - Nevertheless, the LORD raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them. God hears their cry for help He delivers them from the oppression The Sin Cycle

  6. Judges 2:17 - They turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, in obey-ing the commandments of the LORD; they did not do so. After crying for help, why do they go back to the sins they just escaped? The Sin Cycle

  7. Why? • Not listen to God - Yet they would not listen to their judges (v. 17) • Lusting - but they played the harlot with other gods (v. 17) • Gave in - They turned quickly from the way (v. 17) • Left fathers example - from the way in which their fathers (v. 17)

  8. Why? • Not obey God - in obey-ing the commandments of the LORD; they did not do so (v. 17) • No leader (judge) – v. 19 - And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other gods,

  9. What about Us? This study was about “them” – Israel Are we doing the same thing? Tonight is the time to break the cycle of sin!
