Objectives of the day • To provide you with an opportunity to network and share your experiences • To discuss interesting scenarios that you may have come across, and how best to deal with unusual or challenging cases • Group sessions to discuss the issues you have raised • To look forward to the coming year and future developments in living donation

  3. Review of the year • Number accredited at HTA training day: 16 • Number accredited this year via e-learning: 9 • How many current IAs do you think there are? 134 • Total currently registered to complete e-learning (for accreditation): 8

  4. HTA living donation approvals • How many living donor transplants do you think the HTA approved last year (2008-2009)? 1,058 • How many of these do you think were for kidney donations? 1,023

  5. Increase in paired and pooled donation • How many paired donation cases do you think were approved by the HTA last year (2008-2009)? 22 • The first three way pooled in the UK is scheduled to take place next week • How many altruistic donations do you think have been approved so far? 34

  6. Approval summary 2008-2009 (2007-2008) • Executive approved 1,058 (1,000) • Panel approved 39 (22) • Panel not approved 1 (0) Numbers are increasing for the 2009-2010 financial year, which looks set to be the busiest yet.

Increase in altruistic donations • Widespread media coverage in June of the 50% increase in altruistic donations between 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 • This story was featured on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 News and in the Mirror, Independent, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Nursing Times • Prompted widespread interest and numerous enquiries from the public
