  1. Making Inferences: The Art of Gab Going from Assumption to Inference

  2. Learning Objective: • In this lesson, we will learn the skills necessary to make educated guesses based on the facts available.

  3. Did you Know? • As high school students, you make guess about peoples, places, and things on a daily basis. • You do it in the hallways; on Facebook; and through various other forms of popular media.

  4. What is it? • Most inferences made in the hallways are based on assumptions rarely on any facts except for hear-say; however, you already possess part of the skill that it takes to excel your assumptions to fact based inferences. • Inferences are educated guesses based on the facts available, and in literature the facts are limitless.

  5. What you will need: • For this lesson you will need a pen, the student handout, your best listening skills, and your gift for gab. • Ready Let’s begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I will be playing you a series of CD’s, I want you to listen carefully. • After each song you will answer a series of questions based on your knowledge of music.

  7. Questions: • What kind of Music is it? Describe it using adjectives. • What type of person ( Do you think) generally buys this type of music? • Describe the typical fan of this music.

  8. Adjective Bank: These are just a few • Psychotic • Loud • Heavy • Metallic • Slow • Grassy • Sad • Dated

  9. Using your new skill: • Your teacher will now hand you a blank Facebook template. • Pick your favorite song 1, 2, or 3 and based on the inferences you used on your handout design a Facebook profilefor this person. Remember ,yourface book profile has to be based on your inferences that you made and the answers to your questions.
