A subject of Nepal and Bhutan and A Tibetan refugee owing Indian citizenship and residing in India from or before January 1, 1962 are also allowed for applying to the NDA. People with Indian origins who have migrated from the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the motive of a permanent settlement in India. Note - All the other candidates must submit to the recruiting body excluding Indian citizens a certificate of eligibility issued by the Indian Government. Gorkhas of Nepal need not provide any certificate. Gender Female and male candidates are both welcome to join the NDA. Marital Status The NDA exam is only open to unmarried males and females. Marriage is not allowed during the training period at the National Defence Academy. If any candidate marries in between the training period, he/she will be debarred for further procedures and also have to pay all the expenses done on him/her by the government. Character Candidates must possess good character and should not have a criminal record. Visual Acuity Candidates must have normal vision in either eye and should not have any defect which may a?ect their chances of becoming an o?cer in the Armed Forces. Entrance Exam To be eligible to apply for NDA, candidates must appear and qualify in the written exam conducted by the UPSC. Age Criteria The National Defence Academy (NDA) examination is conducted for all candidates who are between the age of 16.5 to 19.5 years. Candidates must be born between January 2, 2004, and January 1, 2007 (both dates inclusive) to be eligible for the NDA examination. Candidates who are currently studying in the 12th standard are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the age criteria. The date of birth as recorded in the matriculation/ secondary examination certificate will be the basis for determining the age, and no subsequent request for change will be considered or granted Education Qualification Candidates applying to the NDA must have passed the 12th standard under the 10+2 system from any recognized board or university. Candidates who are appearing for the 12th standard examination and awaiting their results are also eligible to apply but must submit their 12th standard passing certificate at the time of joining. Candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics at the 12th standard level.

  2. Candidates of class 11 are not eligible to apply. Physical Standards The Indian Army has set certain medical and physical standards that the candidates for NDA must fulfill. It is important for the aspirants to be aware of the physical standards before they plan to take up the NDA exam. The physical standards set by the Indian Army are as follows: Height - The minimum acceptable height for an NDA candidate is 152 cm. 5cm relaxation would be given to Gorkha candidates and the candidates from North Eastern Hills of India, the Kumaon and Garhwal regions. A relaxation of 2 cm would be given to candidates from Lakshwadeep and those below 18 years since they might grow up to the desired height during the training period. Weight - The weight should be in proportion to height, which must be considered during the medical test. Chest Measurement - The measurement should be 81 cm with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.   3. Medical Standards The applicants must pass the medical test conducted by the Armed Forces Medical Services to be eligible for selection at the National Defence Academy. The medical standards for selection are as follows: The applicant should be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards for admission to the academy. Visual Standards - The minimum acceptable vision for candidates is 6/6 (6/9 for Air Force) in one eye and 6/6 in the other with no colour blindness. NDA Vision Standard For ARMY Distance Vision (Corrected)- Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9 Colour vision- CP-III (Defective Safe). Myopia should not be more than -2.5D Hypermetropia should not be more than +3.5D NDA Vision Standards for Air Force Candidates who wear spectacle are not eligible for Air Force. Minimum distant visio should be 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other (correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia). Colour vision CPI Hypermetropia: +2.0 D Sph Manifest Myopia: Nil Retinoscopic Myopia: 0.5 in any Meridian permitted Astigmatism: + 0.75 D Cyl (within + 2.0 D.Max) NDA Vision standard for Navy Uncorrected without glass -6/6, 6/9 Corrected with glass – 6/6, 6/6 Limits of Myopia – –0.75 Limits of Hypermetropia – +1.5 Binocular vision – III Limits of color perception – I Hearing Standards - The minimum acceptable hearing ability for candidates is in the normal range. Any major hearing defect is deemed as a disqualification. Candidate should be able to hear a whisper from each of the ears at a range of 610 cm. Dental Standards - Each applicant must have a dental exam prior to admission. The minimum acceptable dental standards for entry to the NDA are a minimum of 14 teeth, no untreated caries and no deformity in any of the teeth. Physiological Requirements - Prospective candidates must be in good physical and mental health and must be free from any disability likely to interfere with the e?cient performance of duty. Physical Fitness Test - The candidates must be in good physical health and must pass the physical fitness test, which includes running, pull-ups, push-ups and chin-ups. Other Criteria The candidate must not have any permanent physical disability like deafness, color blindness, etc. The candidate must not possess any permanent body tattoo on places other than the inner side of the forearm. However, in the case of traditional beliefs, consideration may be given on a case-to-case basis. The final decision will be over the o?cial authority. The candidate should not be su?ering from any of the health issues such as Wax (Ears), Deviated Nasal Septum, Hydrocele / Phimosis, Condition of Overweight / Underweight, Under Sized Chest, Piles, Tonsillitis, Gynaecomastia and Varicocele. Urine sample of the candidate would also be taken. Any problematic report would lead to disqualification. The candidates should not be su?ering from any internal disease which a?ects the abdominal region. Such cases would lead to disqualification. The candidate’s spleen and liver should be of average size. There should be no heart or disease of the blood vessel. Untreated hernia would also lead to disqualification. The candidate must have undergone the operation at least 1 year before the medical examination. The blood pressure of the candidate should be normal.
