  2. I am here to teach and you are here to learn. I will do my job and you will do yours. Together we will use this 18 week period to help you master the material to be successful.A positive attitude is the key to success.

  3. Class Procedures Why do we have procedures? • Procedures are the way we do things. • To do things right, we have to follow procedures. For example: …to open your locker, you must follow a number sequence …to use your cellphone, you must push the correct buttons • To be successful in learning, you need to followsome simple procedures.

  4. Class Procedures What are they?

  5. Entering class • Make sure you have everything you need for the day • Enter class quietly. Put up electronics. (earbuds, iPod, cell phone) • Go directly to your assigned seat. Be in your seat when the bell rings. • Get ready for work. Pencil sharpened, paper & notebook ready.

  6. Entering class • Pick up Interactive Notebook. • Answer the daily question on the left hand page of your interactive notebook. Page is numbered and dated. Write the question as part of the answer.

  7. How do I enter class?

  8. During Instructions:What am I supposed to be doing? • Listen to the teacher with full attention. Do not ask for a hall pass • Stay in your seat. • No pencil sharpening, talking or whispering. Listen for what you are to learn • Don’t write during instructions. Time later for note taking

  9. Instructions:contd • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand • Ask questions related to the instructions or subject. Other kinds of questions can be handled later • Make sure you understand the concept, task or instructions. Can you explain it to someone else?

  10. Instructions: • If you don’t understand, ask questions. Begin by stating what part you don’t understand. • Not understanding because you were not listening is not acceptable.

  11. What do I do during instruction?

  12. While you are working: • Stay on task. No earbuds/headphones unless I have instructed you to use them. No talking across the room. • Make sure you read or listen to directions about your work. • If you don’t understand, ask for help from those at your table. If no one understands, raise your hand to ask teacher to come to table to explain

  13. Working: • If asked for help, be polite, kind and offer your best effort. • Respect each other and be friendly. For 90 days, we are a team. We all need to work together to get the job done. • Talking should be no louder than a whisper.(6” voices) • Stay in your seat unless you have asked permission (raise hand to ask teacher) or it is part of your job description • Use time wisely. Put forth best effort to finish quality work on time.

  14. When the teacher raises her hand • Stop what you are doing. • Face the teacher and wait silently • Notify classmates who haven’t noticed teacher’s raised hand • No talking or whispering. All your attention should be on the teacher

  15. Dismissal • Clean your work area. Trash goes into the trashcan or recycling bin. • Pass IN & folder to the right. • Wait for Ms Baxter to dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you. • After you are given permission to leave, push your chair in and leave quietly.

  16. Hall Passes • You will receive a ticket for 6 passes for the semester. Once they are gone, you get no more. Use of a pass after the 6 results in detention. • No ticket, no pass. • You may not use someone else’s pass • Do not ask for a hall pass while I am giving instructions or right after the tardy bell (use time between classes)

  17. If you are absent • Get assignments from tablemates and check the folder for handouts. Do the work at home. • If you missed a test, you have 3 days to make it up for excused absences. Some tests may have to be made up during Saturday school. See Ms Baxter • Work done during unexcused absences receive a zero. • If you were here when work was assigned, it is due on that date.

  18. Computer Use • You must have permission to turn on or use a computer • During computer time, if you are on an off-task site, you will lose your computer privileges for 1 or more days. No listening to music unless I give you permission • Follow Board policy.
