  2. Who Takes Care of the Animals? • The zoo keeper takes care of the animals everyday.

  3. What do the animals eat? • Each animal has a diet designed just for them • It depends on what is best for each animal. • They feed fresh fruits and vegetables', hay, alfalfa fish and meat.

  4. Why don’t the animals eat the owners when they are feeding them? • With our carnivores we always have a protective barrier between the animal and the zookeeper.

  5. What do the animal’s homes in the zoo look like? • We try to make the exhibits look like the places where the animals live in the wild. • We add trees to climb and pools to swim in

  6. Do you have all white Zoe zebras at your zoo? • No, at the St. Paul Zoo we have Grant’s Zebras. • Their names are Ulysses, Minnie, and Thelma • They are Black and White

  7. Do you have any fish at your zoo? • Yes, we have many tanks of fish!

  8. Where do the animals go when it rains or snows? • Some animals, like the polar bears, stay outside all year round and really like the snow. • Other animals, like the gorillas, have inside exhibits they can go to when the weather is bad.

  9. When the animals choke what do you do? • I have never had an animal choke that I have worked with. • We will try to help them if it is safe for us • Sometimes we let them clear it on their own if it is not safe for us.

  10. What do the animals play with? • The animals at Como Zoo get lots of different things to play with-balls, sleds, branches, sheets, and boxes all make good enrichment toys.

  11. How long can a cheetah run? • Cheetahs can run at speeds up to 70 miles per hour • But they can only stay at that speed for 20-60 seconds

  12. Do you have wolves, bears, turkeys or parrots in your zoo? • We have 2 Timber wolves, Denali and Shy-Anne and two polar bears, Buzz and Neil • We have one parrot who is named “Turkey” 

  13. Do you have a butterfly place? • We had a butterfly exhibit 3 years ago. We are planning to have it again in a year or so.
