BBC 3 LOGO Camera pans out onto a extreme long location shot to reveal text appearing being typed resembles typing on social media – the font colours have been drawn out from the location An abrupt cut to a shallow focus/ bokeh effect to draw the attention to the interviewee (emotional) Camera zooms to an extreme close up of the documentary behind the scenes before her interview, represents social context of wearing dramatic make up which foreshadows what the documentary is about Inserted clips from popular, recognisable news outlets that relate to the theme The editing resembles the popular social platform Twitter The text displays trolling comments and symbolises how they surround her in everyday life Old homemade footage included as a flashback The text resembles typing a comment which is the focus of the documentary Triggers an emotional response from the audience

  5. EXAMPLE 2 – BEAUTY LAID BARE SUMMARY: Four British people in their twenties with different attitudes to make-up visit America to explore the multi-billion-dollar beauty industry. 6. Extreme close up shot BBC Logo An abrupt cut to a shallow focus/  bokeh effect to draw the attention to the interviewee with a shadowy yellow background The typography is a modern style which looks like it has been painted on which reflects the topic of this documentary which investigates the creative beauty industry (the production) Birds eye view shot to establish the location effectively Editing: A clip taken from a popular social media site A new title imposed onto the location establishes the location of the next scene Editing: Pictures taken from Instagram with an effect to resemble scrolling down your phone Close up shot establishing a different location

  7. EXAMPLE 3 – Young, Welsh and Pretty Minted EPISODE 1 SUMMARY In the startling and revealing world of young Welsh entrepreneurs, 22-year-old YouTube superstar The Gonth tells the secret to making a six-figure income online, social influencer Erin makes £900 every time she posts a photo on Instagram, and 19-year-old Gabby unveils her swanky designer swimwear collection • This documentary is somewhat useful as it relates to my topic of social media – more specifically the controversial topic of social influencerswhich I am keen to explore in my documentary  • However, parts of this documentary are oflimited usefulness to me due to inappropriate scenes and language which I wouldn't include in my documentary • There are a variety of camera shotsin this documentary that I can use in my own to ensure that my documentary is reflective of the typical conventions of a documentary LINK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p05n7frn/young-welsh-and-pretty-minted

  8. In the beginning montage the topic of this documentary (the world of influencers) is reinforced instantly Camera tracking one of the subjects walking down the street demonstrating her day-to-day adventures as an 'influencer' A high angle introduces one of the subjects of the documentary A relaxed two shot demonstrates how this documentary is more nonchalant in nature and establishes closeness between the audience and the subjects A mid shot with a shallow focus of the subject in an interview counters the other relaxed interviews in the opening sequence, conveys a more serious tone Shallow focus of the headset conveys this subject's job as an online gamer An extreme close up shot behind the scenes of one of the subjects getting her makeup done for a photo shoot Close up shot towards the end of the opening montage once again introducing one of the subjects in the documentary  Title appears with montages of clips blurred in the background

  9. EXAMPLE 4 – DIRTY STREAMING: THE INTERNET'S BIG SECRET SUMMARY Film and TV writer Beth Webb goes in search of the internet and discovers that ‘the cloud’ is actually a vast network of energy-guzzling data centres and undersea cables.  • This documentary is somewhat useful as it relates to my topic of social media – the hidden side of the internetwhich I am keen to explore in my documentary through investigating the  hidden world of social media • However, parts of this documentary are oflimited usefulness to me as this documentary doesn't directly link to my topic of social media as it is looking at the environmental impact of the internet • There are a variety of camera shotsin this documentary that I can use in my own to ensure that my documentary opening is reflective of the typical conventions of a documentary LINK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p083tb16/dirty-streaming-the-internets-big-secret

  11. EXAMPLE 5 – BREAKING FASHION  DOCUMENTARY SERIES – EPISODE 6 SUMMARY CEO Adam wants to sign up a new social media influencer, body positivity campaigner Chessie King. After giving her his sales pitch, the influencer with over 600,000 followers agrees to come on board. The range is out of the company's comfort zone – focusing on empowering slogans on t-shirts rather than a full fashion collection.  • This documentary is  useful as it relates to my topic of social media –  the companyis working with an influencerin this episode. This is extremely useful to my topic area as in my documentary I am interviewing an influencer and this episode shows the brand deals that are secured as an influencer and gives an insight into their work • However, parts of this documentary are oflimited usefulness to me as this documentary doesn't directly focus on the topic of influencers as the show is focusing on the fashion brand, and the influencer is a guess in this episode • There are a variety of camera shots and topics discussedin this documentary that I can use in my own to ensure that my documentary opening is reflective of the typical conventions of a documentary and relates to my topic of social media LINK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p07mbxn1/breaking-fashion-series-1-6-chessie-king
